Springfield Veterinarians

As a pet parent, you know how crucial it is to have a veterinarian you know, like, and trust. Your fur babies are family and you want a vet who knows that too. Springfield is blessed to have many qualified, highly reviewed, and reputable veterinarians.

Check the vet’s credentials for licensing in your state. A DVM is a doctor of veterinary medicine. A RVT is a registered veterinary technician who assists a licensed veterinarian in lab tests, medicine application, surgeries and other health related procedures.

When looking for a veterinarian, there are a few things you should take into consideration:

  • Quality of Facility: Is the office sanitary, comfortable and accommodating?

  • Characteristics of Vet & Staff: Are they professional, helpful and knowledgeable? Are they caring, nurturing and calm with you and your pet?

  • Location: How easy is the vet to get to from your home or office? Is parking a problem and/or is it accessible by public transit?

  • Convenience: Do they provide any added value options like house visits or follow-up calls?

  • Accessibility: Do you need an appointment for urgent or last minute needs? What are the office hours? Do they have emergency vet hours?

  • Personalization: How many vets are there? If there are multiple, will you always see the same one?

  • Communication: How often and what methods do they use to let you know about appointment and vaccination reminders? Are they good about explaining things and answering your questions?

  • Experience: How long has the hospital been around and practicing veterinary medicine?

Be sure you are comfortable with the vet’s approach to wellness care. Do research on the recommended vaccines for your pet and know what to expect when you visit the office. Have a list of questions on things you're unsure about or want clarification. This will give you a chance to observe how the vet interacts with you.

Don’t be afraid to test out a few vets before you commit to seeing one. See if there is a connection between the vet and your pet. Are they easy to talk to and put you at ease? Watch your pet for signs of anxiety through the process (excessive panting and pacing) and see if the vet and staff are able to put them at ease.

Your pet’s vet will play an important role in both of your lives for a long time. Take the time to find the right one. Here are some local veterinarians, clinics, and hospitals in Springfield:
