Pet Friendly Recipes
We love our pets and it gives us joy to spoil them endlessly with our love and of course, healthy treats! Here are some good recipes to give our fur babies something they can enjoy with us everyday. It’s always important to consider your pets diet and any restrictions before giving new food. These treats are not intended as a replacement for regular daily meals.
Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups chopped, cooked chicken (see note)
2 cups whole wheat flour or white whole wheat flour
1 (5.3-ounce) container nonfat plain Greek yogurt
3/4 cup water
1 egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients, stirring until thoroughly incorporated. Batter will be very thick and sticky.
Drop batter by level tablespoons onto parchment-lined baking sheets. (Because these dog biscuits spread very little during baking, I crowd them together more than typical cookies, and get all of them onto 2 baking sheets.) Using the back of a spoon, flatten the dog treats slightly.
Bake for 12-14 minutes, until lightly golden brown.
Cool completely on wire racks. Store in refrigerator or (for longer storage) in zippered freezer bags in freezer (thaw before serving).
Chicken: As discussed in the post, this recipe is an opportunity to use up leftover chicken, and we often utilize the bits of unused rotisserie chicken that we have left after making other recipes. Any cooked, chopped chicken will work for this recipe, but be very careful not to include any bones. Also, don't use too much of the fatty chicken skin, particularly if the skin has spicy seasonings or a lot of salt on it. Once you've finely chopped your leftover chicken for this recipe, you can pre-measure it and store it in a labeled, zippered freezer bag in your freezer until you have time to make this dog treat recipe.

Cat Treat Recipe
Ingredients
5 ounces canned tuna not drained
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 large egg lightly beaten
2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
Place a rack in the center of your oven. Preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Line a 19 x 13-inch half-sheet baking pan with parchment paper.
Add canned tuna to a small food processor. Pulse until tuna is finely chopped.
In a large bowl, combine tuna, whole wheat flour, and egg. Mix together until combined. Add olive oil and stir until fully incorporated.
Scoop about a tablespoon of dough and form into 1-inch balls. Place on a lined baking sheet. Once all the balls have been formed, use the tines of a fork to press firmly down on each ball.
Bake for approximately 12-14 minutes, or until the treats are slightly browned on the bottom. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet.
Notes and Tips
Scaling the Recipe: You can definitely double or triple this recipe if you want to make extra treats.
Baking Time: If you want these treats to be a little less chewy, you can bake them for an extra 4-5 minutes. It all depends on what you think your cat will enjoy.
Recipe Substitutions: Feel free to add a tablespoon of catnip or parsley to this recipe. Your cat will say thank you!

Kids love to help, here's one to try together!
The three simple ingredients for this home-made dog treat recipe are:
1 cup oat flour (or whole wheat flour if your dog is not sensitive to wheat)
¼ cup peanut butter (all natural, ensure the only ingredient is peanuts)
½ cup cooked sweet potato, mashed* (or unsweetened pumpkin puree)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and prepare a baking tray with parchment paper.
Stir together mashed sweet potato and all natural peanut butter (no sweeteners or additives).
Add the flour. If using oat flour you can make it yourself by just grinding quick or rolled oats into a flour using a food processor. If your dog is not sensitive to wheat, feel free to use whole wheat flour.
Mix the flour into the wet ingredients with a spoon or your hands until fully combined. The dough will be a little sticky but I find it pretty easy to roll out. If the dough seems too dry, you can add a splash of water or oat milk. If the dough is too sticky to roll out, just add a bit more flour.
Transfer the dough to a silicone mat or sheet of wax paper and roll out to between ¼” and ½” thickness. (Placing another piece of wax paper on top of the dough can make it easier to roll if it’s sticky). Cut out your treats using a biscuit cutter of your choosing or simply slice the dough into small square treats. Keep in mind that as there are no rising agents in this dough so the thickness of the biscuit at this stage will be the thickness of the cooked biscuit.
Transfer the cut out treats to your lined baking tray and bake at 400 degrees F for 12-15 minutes. For softer treats bake for 10-12 minutes and for crunchier treats bake for 15 minutes.
Allow to cool completely and store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to one week or freeze for up to 2 months
Notes
Use a larger cookie cutter for bigger dogs.
Make the biscuits as thick or thin as is best for your dog. And if you don’t have a cookie cutter… cut the dough into small square treats!
