Fall Activities for You and Your Dog

We are quickly approaching the first day of Fall (September 22nd). With that comes not only cooler weather and beautiful trees, but also many activities you can do with your dog! As always, call ahead to make sure they still allow dogs, or are open for the times you want to visit. Here are 5 great activities to try this fall:

  • Visit an Apple Orchard

What better way to experience the crisp fall weather than to be outside picking apples with your pooch? Another bonus? Apple slices can clean your dog's teeth as they chew them. Make sure to remove the core and seeds, as they are choking hazards. Meghan grew up going to Eckert’s, when she lived in St. Louis. A great local option is Peters Orchards.

  • Go Pumpkin Picking

Just like with visiting an apple orchard, picking pumpkins is quintessential fall. Local pumpkin patches may or may not allow dogs (so call ahead!), but the hunt for the perfect pumpkin will be made even better with your pup. A new local patch is Big Bear Pumpkin Patch. Their grand opening is the first weekend in October

  • Eat Some Pumpkin

After you’ve found the perfect pumpkin and carved your best jack-o-lantern, save some pieces to enjoy. Try adding pumpkin puree to your dog’s diet. It’s full of fiber and great for digestion; but make sure you don’t overdo it. A couple spoonfuls will give your pup that fall pumpkin flavor, and their tummy will thank you.

  • Take a Hike

We are blessed to have access to so many wonderful hiking trails. This time of year, the trees at Bothwell Lodge and along the Katy Trail are absolutely stunning! Knob Noster State Park has plenty of hiking trails for you and your pup to enjoy as well. Stop by Back in the Park on September 25th too!

  • Dress Up!

Trick-or-treating is only for a night or two, but Halloween is a fun time to dress your pup–so long as they’re comfortable with it–and head out door-to-door with the kids. Have extra dog treats, too, for those trick-or-treater dogs who come to your door. Don’t miss this year's Trunk or Treat at Centennial Park.
