Why We Started Funky Bunch Pet Care
Kobe was our General Manager until he passed away in 2024.
Our story began back in 2012, when Meghan and I met at Missouri State University, fell in love, and soon got married. Life took us down to Lubbock, Texas, where we pursued graduate studies at Texas Tech University. Like many students, we found ourselves needing some extra income to make ends meet, so we started pet sitting as a side job—and we never stopped.
Around this same time, we adopted Kobe, our beloved long-haired dachshund. Both of us had grown up around dachshunds, so welcoming Kobe into our family felt like coming home. He quickly became more than just a pet; he was our inspiration. We wanted to build something that Kobe would be proud of, a service we would confidently trust for him. It needed to be high-quality, reliable, and above reproach.
As life moved us around—from Lubbock to Arlington, TX, where we continued our education and welcomed our two kids, to Sedalia, MO, where we joined the Department of Conservation—we always kept pet sitting. Throughout these transitions, pet sitting wasn't just a job; it was a constant in our lives, something we genuinely loved doing.
In 2019, we made the pivotal decision to pursue our passion full-time. We saw firsthand how frustrated pet owners were with inconsistent and low-quality pet care services, and we knew we could offer something much better. That’s when Funky Bunch Pet Care was officially launched.
Why did we start? Because pet owners deserve peace of mind. Because pets deserve care of the highest possible standard. We were tired of seeing subpar services leaving people frustrated and worried about their furry family members. We were determined to provide excellence in every interaction.
Beyond excellent pet care, we saw Funky Bunch Pet Care as an opportunity to build something meaningful for our family. We wanted to teach our children valuable lessons about hard work, compassion, and entrepreneurship. Funky Bunch Pet Care is truly a family effort.
