Why hire a professional pet sitter?

Hiring someone is always a big deal. There is plenty to worry about and take into consideration. This is even more so when hiring someone to take care of your pet. Pets are part of the family. It’s like hiring someone to take care of a child! So when it comes to finding the right person to care for your pet, there are many things you should look for.

We get asked a lot why someone should hire a professional pet sitter. Since it is Professional Pet Sitters Week, we thought we would highlight some reasons why it’s important.

1. Being licensed and insured.

Hiring a professional pet sitter means they carry the appropriate license and have pet sitter specific insurance. While these aspects may easily get skipped over, having these are what protects you and your pet in the event of an emergency. An injured pet is the worst nightmare of both the owner and pet sitter. Having appropriate coverage also makes sure damage to your home and property are also taken care of in the event of an emergency.

2. Being pet CPR and first aid certified.

Did you know there is pet specific training for CPR and first aid? There is, and it’s the first line of defense. They’re trained to recognize common concerns and address them quickly. Being CPR and first aid certified also means your pet sitter knows when to seek additional help.

3. Continuing education and experience.

A professional pet sitter will always be learning more, and not just about pet care. They’ll be learning better ways to operate their business, so they’ll be more reliable and will be around year after year. A professional pet sitter will also learn about the newest care techniques, how to implement ‘Fear Free’ in their services, and more specialized information. This happens through attending conferences, reading books, watching videos and listening to pet care specific podcasts, and networking with other professionals.

4. Services.

A professional pet sitter will have services that meet your needs and can adapt them to your specific situation. A professional will also be able to tell you when a request is not something they’re comfortable with and have recommendations/alternatives for you. They will focus on communicating with you through photos and videos to make sure you never go a day without seeing how your pet is doing.

We know it takes a lot of trust to have someone care for your pet. They are your family and we commit to treating them like our family too. We’d be happy to meet with you to talk about your needs and see how we can care for your pet while you’re away. Check out our process and FAQs.
